I made a wonderful discovery while working in our desert yard. I had seen little blooming Rose Pincushion cacti in other yards and wished I had some. One morning I discovered one of them in my yard, then another and another and many more!
Let me briefly describe our yard. I grew up in Minnesota and a yard to me was a carpet of green grass, some apple trees and some flowers. Our desert yard, which is the immediate one acre around our house has 6 huge Saguaro cacti, 1 full grown Mesquite tree with many smaller ones, 15 or more Palo Verde trees, Cholla and Longhorn Cholla, Creosote, Graythorn and Crucifixion cacti. I say all that to explain why I missed the small Pincushion cacti.
I had seen a few of these cacti in our yard, but I had never seen them bloom! Thank God, we have had so much rain in Arizona this summer there are so many more blooms on all the desert plants.
As I observed these plants, I noticed the blossoms on the east side catching the morning sun were the first to open. The blossoms on the west side or more shaded areas opened later when the sun hit them, or some never did open all day.
Again Jesus spoke to them saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”John 8:12
These blossoms in the sunlight got me thinking about coming into the light of Jesus. My life came to life and blossomed after I said “Yes” to follow Jesus and walk in His light. I have an abundant life now and the hope and promise of eternal life forever in heaven, all through the grace of God.
